Your readers may have heard that Insight Out, the gay and lesbian mail order book club, has gone out of business. They were a major player in gay and lesbian publishing, because they had the backing of their owners, Book of the Month Club and the international media conglomerate Bertelsman. They played the same game that Borders, Barnes & Noble and the other chain stores play of trying to cream off the best-selling lesbian and gay books and ignoring the rest.

We at Giovanni’s Room hope Insight Out’s customers will find us, where they will be treated to a vastly larger selection available in the store, by mail order and online. At Giovanni’s Room, they will be supporting an institution dedicated to service to the GLBT communities, not to the enrichment of anonymous stockholders in far away countries.
