Man steals money, buys love
365gay.com reports that an Oregon man is accused of stealing $400,000 from the accounts of investors and then spending it all on a gay hustler.
According to police, Gary Sparks, 64, is charged with fraud and theft for portraying himself as an investment counselor and draining funds from client accounts.
Investigators said that Sparks lives in a trailer home, spent none of the money on himself and gave an unidentified 23-year-old hustler a $72,000 Mercedes convertible, as well as paying for a one-year lease on a West Hollywood apartment for $41,000. Sparks reportedly then gave the man a $9,000 Rolex watch and spent more than $40,000 on clothes for him.
Parental rights granted
Gaywired.com reports that a judge ruled July 13 that same-sex couples in Oregon deserve the same parental rights as heterosexual couples.
Jeana Frazzini, 34, sued the state last year after her name was not included on the birth certificate of the baby of her lesbian partner, K.D. Parman, 32.
In Oregon, biological fathers, even in cases of artificial insemination, automatically get legal parental rights. The couple argued that they were unfairly denied that privilege because they couldn’t legally marry.
Multnomah County Circuit Judge Eric J. Bloch wrote in his ruling that the state constitution bars denying privileges to one class of citizens that are given to another. He also said the domestic-partnership law, which takes effect Jan. 1, will end the inequity for Frazzini by giving her legal parental status.
HIV+ soldier held on sex charges
Advocate.com reports that military authorities at Fort Bragg have charged an HIV-positive soldier with assault with a deadly weapon for engaging in unprotected sex.
Pfc. Johnny Lamar Dalton, 25, was recently arrested and is being held on a $50,000 bond. He had been ordered by his commander in November not to have unprotected sex after it was discovered he was HIV-positive.
Dalton is accused of not telling his male partner, an 18-year-old civilian, that he has HIV. Authorities were alerted by the teen’s mother after her son fell ill and has since tested positive for HIV.
It is not known if Dalton is the source of the teen’s infection.
