Turkeybaster tussel: Coulter clash draws ire

To the Editor:

Mark Segal’s column about Anne Coulter (“Lesbian outing on the horizon,” July 20-26) — while I, too, think she’s completely bonkers — was downright despicable. Not only does Segal manage to find a back-door way of demeaning lesbians (as though calling crazy Coulter a lesbo is the absolute worst thing a person can do. Really? It is?), but it stinks of the same over-the-top tactics the very folks he attempts to criticize regularly evoke. Surely references to “drain holes” and “turkeybasters” belong in the back of PGN, not up front.

Sure, I get the idea. Name-calling and hypocrisy are bad things. But there are more effective, far more intelligent ways of driving home these points rather than weaving a bogus tale that barely even gets to the heart of the matter. I always thought preaching to the choir involved not pissing off the choir.
