The Unitarian Universalist Church
of Delaware County will rededicate its LGBTQ+ rainbow flag at a ceremony at 4
p.m. May 21.
The church erected the prominent
metal banner in 2007 at the front of its site at 145 W. Rose Tree Rd., Media.
The artistic creation commemorated the church’s commitment to its Welcoming
Congregation status embracing the LGBTQ+ population as full members and
participants in all activities. Sadly, two cloth rainbow flags previously set
up in similar locations had been stolen and one was returned, burned, to the
flag holder on the church’s sign.
The rededication honors the refreshing of the flag’s colors by the original artist
as well as 10 years of progress in acceptance and legal advancement of LGBTQ+ people
nationally and worldwide, despite pockets of resistance and a potentially
unfriendly new presidential administration. This event also recognizes strides
the congregation has taken in welcoming those of non-conforming gender and/or
sexual expression and orientation.
The ceremony, at the flagpole,
will include brief remarks by the church’s minister, the Rev. Peter Friedrichs,
and others. Refreshments will follow. The ceremony will be moved inside the
church in case of inclement weather.

church at 610-566-4853.
