LGBT networking event

Women United of Philadelphia and Elements Organization will present “Networking with a Cause” from 5-9 pm.

Members of the Police Liaison Committee, which works to connect the LGBT community with police, this week introduced local police officials to the growing LGBT population in what is coming to be known as the Gayborhood South.

The following incidents in the Midtown Village and Washington Square West areas were reported to the Sixth Police District between July 31-Aug.

Whether it was the Proposition 8 ruling, the beautiful weather or the sheer number of people out in the Gayborhood last Saturday night, hand-holding couples seemed more prevalent than usual.

About 50 people turned out July 28 at the William Way LGBT Community Center to honor the local groups that received more than $25,000 from LGBT grantmaking agency Sapphire Fund.

The National Organization for Marriage has been touring the nation for the past month speaking out against marriage equality, and the group is set to make a stop in Pennsylvania next week.

Cop sentenced for soliciting boys

A former Philadelphia police officer was sentenced to prison last week for soliciting underage boys for sex.
