A local anti-bullying nonprofit this month will host its annual fundraising gala.

GALAEI program hosts dance-party fundraiser

A peer-led transgender program in Philadelphia will host a dance party fundraiser for the Philly Trans March 2017. GALAEI’s Trans Equity Project, formerly known as the TransHealth Information Project (TIP), will host SLAY! to celebrate the resiliency of the transgender and gender-nonconforming communities.

TMAN explores masculinity

An organization dedicated to empowering people of color who are on the trans-masculine spectrum is hosting a community conversation about masculinity this weekend. 

“What is Healthy Masculinity?” will take place from 1-3:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at GALAEI, 149 W. Susquehanna Ave.

The discussion will center on how traditional conceptions of masculinity are built and how the trans community can break those molds. Refreshments will be served and SEPTA tokens will be available to those who join the Trans-Health Information Project.

Fall Ball registration opens

Registration for the fall season of the City of Brotherly Love Softball League opened last week.

The slow-pitch LGBT softball league begins its Fall Ball games Sept. 10, with games on the successive five Sundays. Registration is $35 and includes a T-shirt.

ACLU of PA to host storytelling workshop for trans individuals

A statewide nonprofit organization next week will host a workshop for trans individuals to share their stories. Naiymah Sanchez, the transgender-advocacy coordinator for the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, will facilitate the discussion.

Pride returns to Reading

Reading will celebrate Pride this weekend with a series of events.

The festivities kick off with a pool party from 6-10 p.m. July 14 at Crowne Plaza. The family-friendly event includes a DJ and food and drinks for purchase. The $5 tickets support Reading Pride Celebration.

The annual Pride festival will be held from noon-6 p.m. July 15 at Centre Park, 733 Centre Ave. Dance artist Dario will perform, along with Celtic magician Daniel GreenWolf and regional musicians and drag performers. The event also features vendors, speakers and a food court. Admission is $5, with proceeds benefitting RPC.

The official post-Pride party takes place 6-midnight that evening at DoubleTree by Hilton with a DJ and drag performances and food and drinks for purchase. Tickets are $5 and the party is for those 21 and over.

AIDS Law Project summer movie

The AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania will hold its 18th-annual summer movie party this month. The festivities begin 6 p.m. July 14 at William Way LGBT Center, 1315 Spruce St.

HIV swimming-pool-access case settled

The lawsuit of “Bonnie Jones,” an HIV-positive woman who claimed she was illegally denied access to a therapeutic swimming pool due to her serostatus, was settled in May.
