The last Christmas gift Sam Morse wanted was a pink tree. Because the Philadelphia native was so beloved, she got one from her spouse, Eileen Schaller, and another from her doctor.
Joseph Starr III died Dec. 27 at age 38.
Starr was a manager and longtime employee for stores in the Gap Inc. family of retailers. He had been living in Philadelphia for approximately 15 years.
Stephen T. Johnson, a retired high-ranking Philadelphia Police official who served as the liaison between the department and the LGBT community, died Jan. 2 of pancreatic cancer. He was 63.
Fredia Hurdle, who was among more than two-dozen people who successfully sued the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to secure marriage equality, died last week, after suffering a stroke Aug. 7. She was 50.
