Tea party candidate Christine O’Donnell, who previously headed an “ex-gay” program, made national headlines last week after winning Delaware’s Republican primary Senate election against a longtime lawmaker.

Although the Pennsylvania legislature has yet to move forward on a proposed statewide LGBT nondiscrimination bill, an increasing number of activists at the local level are working to ensure that LGBT protections are in place in their towns.

Just two years after the American Psychological Association declassified homosexuality as a mental illness, a group of gay students at West Chester University petitioned the state for funding for a new organization to represent its interests, a request that was granted.

The Doylestown Borough Council gave its resounding support to the LGBT community this week when it unanimously voted in favor of including sexual orientation and gender identity in the borough’s non-discrimination ordinance.
