A Downington priest has been arrested and charged with stealing nearly $100,000 of church funds for a beach house at the New Jersey shore, travel, Grindr dates with other men and other “sexual relationships with men.”

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of Father Joseph McLoone, 56, for the theft of $98,405.50 from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. McLoone is alleged to have diverted parish funds into a secret account, misappropriating fees charged to parishioners and other fraudulent activity. McLoone has been charged with “theft by unlawful taking” and related offenses.

A traveling exhibit exploring the histories of Pennsylvania municipalities that have fought for LGBTQIA-plus nondiscrimination ordinances will be on display at the William Way LGBT Community Center’s Archives Gallery from Sept. 2-20. 

"The Long Road to LGBTQ+ Equality in Pennsylvania” was created by the Pennsylvania LGBT History Network, a coalition of individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving queer stories, in partnership with the History Project, an archiving initiative operated by the LGBT Center of Central PA. Launched in Harrisburg in March, the exhibit has snaked its way through towns including Lancaster, Carlisle, Erie and Allentown to inform people of more than 50 years of attempts to achieve LGBTQ equality in the Keystone State. 

 

A former student at the University of Scranton has filed suit against the university, claiming that school officials failed to implement reasonable safeguards that would have prevented him from experiencing anti-LGBT harassment from another student.

The federal lawsuit was filed Aug. 27 in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. A jury trial has been requested.

A newly-launched national initiative is calling on corporations that receive top equality ratings from the Human Rights Campaign to stop financially supporting anti-LGBTQ members of Congress. 

Zero for Zeros Campaign, which launched in June, uses public information from the Federal Election Commission to track political contributions from corporate PACs of companies assigned a perfect rating by the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, which evaluates the impact of big business’ policies and procedures on the LGBTQ community. The scorecard analyzes organizations based on factors including “organizational competency in LGBT inclusion,” public commitment and equal benefits.

 

Officials at the University of Pennsylvania have withdrawn their request for a judge to unseal the name of a trans woman who’s suing them.

“Jane Doe” is suing the Ivy League college, its hospital and various associates for medical malpractice, wrongful termination and a host of other claims.

More than 7,000 U.S. residents now have gender designation “X” on their IDs

The Trump administration proposed a rule change on August 14 that would allow government contractors to discriminate against LGBT employees based on a company’s religious beliefs. The Labor Department proposal was filed on the Federal Register, under the heading "Implementing Legal Requirements Regarding the Equal Opportunity Clause's Religious Exemption" and is one more in a series of discriminatory anti-LGBT moves by the Trump administration.
