The FIVE FRIDAYS concert series is in its second season at Saint Paul’s. This concert will take place in the Parish Hall at Saint Paul’s while renovations are underway in the sanctuary, and will be followed by a reception at which guests may greet the artists. All proceeds from the series will be directed towards Face to Face Germantown and the Interfaith Hospitality Network, two local organizations that work to alleviate hunger and homelessness.
The program includes works by Bruch, Prokofiev, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Bach, Enescu, and Grainger.
BORN LAU, viola Praised for his musical imagination and passion, violist Born Lau has appeared internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. The recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Lau is a winner of Astral Artists’ 2012 National Auditions. Originally from Hong Kong, Mr. Lau began studying the violin at the age of seven and viola at eleven. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Paul Coletti, and currently studies at the Curtis Institute of Music with Roberto Díaz.
ALEXANDRE MOUTOUZKINE, piano The Dallas Morning News said Russian-American pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine, “played Brahms’ Op. 117 Intermezzi more beautifully, more movingly, than I’ve ever heard them. At once sad, tender and noble, this was playing of heart-stopping intimacy and elegance.” The winner of many competition awards, he claimed top prizes at the Walter W. Naumburg, Cleveland, Montreal, and Arthur Rubinstein international competitions, among others. Alexandre Moutouzkine holds a Master’s degree and post-graduate degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. He holds undergraduate degrees from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Music Academy. He is currently a teaching associate at the Manhattan School of Music, where he also received a 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award.
