Will the Scouts ever be evicted from their city-owned building?

“If I were a betting girl — which I’m not — I’d say the city eventually will let the Scouts alone or reach a compromise that will allow the Scouts to stay. I say this because there’s a whole can of worms that goes along with evicting the Scouts. The city just isn’t ready for that.”</i>

“Yes. The Scouts are stuck in their ways. They won’t budge. But gay rights will prevail because that’s the wave of the future. I think the Scouts will be out within five years.”</i>

“No, not in the foreseeable future. It’s an ongoing struggle, and the powers-that-be have more sympathy for the Scouts because they do some good work. But they’re still breaking the law.”</i>

“No. While I’d like for the Scouts to change their policies, they do have a right to set their own membership standards. The city is overreaching and harassing them. Ultimately, I think the courts will rule in favor of the Scouts.”</i>

The U.S. Supreme Court let stand a federal judge's finding that the Boy Scouts of America is a religious organization.

In fact, the BSA was taken over by the Mormons.

When I was a scout in the 1960s, believe me, there wasn't a peep about homosexuality. "Morally straight" most certainly did NOT mean heterosexual.

These problems started when the BSA instituted a policy banning gays from being scoutmasters. BSA has brought all of these problems upon itself, much to the detriment of boys who, as I did 45 years ago, could benefit from Scouting.

This really is a damned shame. I happen to teach eighth-grade science in public school; and I guarantee you my students could use Scouting.

By the way, the Girl Scouts don't have these problems.

Wed the Supreme court refused to hear a case from San Diego very similar to the Phila case, where the bigot scouts are being told to get the fuck out of the city super-cheapo building they rent, due to discrimination.

This leaves the lower court ruling standing - tough shit for the Boy scouts.

How soon can we send a dump truck for all the boy scout stuff, give them one day to move out, and then go in there, block off the street, and toss all their crap out the window.

Sometimes a little property destruction can be a fun scene.

Why won't the Scouts live by their own oath? One part is "Being morally straight means to live your life with honesty, to be clean in your speech and actions, and to be a person of strong character." An honest person would not shirk the responsibility to pay their rent on time. Owning money to the City Of Phil. isn't a honest act by the scouts. If the City Of Phil. has to sue the Boy Scouts to collect rent is the action of a dishonest person or the Boy Scouts leadership as a whole. This show a big character flaw. This is a shameful example to current future, and past Scouts. Weasel out of a debt!
